Welcome to our first Food Service & Nutrition newsletter!

We’re excited to share updates, highlights, and helpful nutrition information to support our students and families.

Kearsley Community Schools partners with Chartwells School Dining Services to provide nutritious, delicious meals for our students. This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting student health, wellness, and academic success through high-quality school meals.

Chartwells shares this commitment through its mission:

“Our goal every day is to make sure that students leave the cafeteria happier and healthier than when they came in.”

Together, Kearsley and Chartwells are focused on creating positive dining experiences that fuel learning and promote lifelong healthy habits.

Taking Care of Our Students

PURPLE BINDER POWER!

The Purple Binder represents our Allergy and Diet management Program. We adopted and were trained on this program back in the Summer of 2025 and have set standards that assist us in serving our allergy students in more of a streamlined way.

To assist us with this, we have coded purple and separated items, such as purple gloves and tongs, to reduce the possibility of cross-contamination. We have also purchased refrigerators that store allergen free items such as gluten free items and nondairy items.

“Welcome to Kearsley” Event

What better way to welcome new students to Kearsley, than with a warm tasty breakfast and a fresh omelet made for you by the culinary genius of the district,
Chef Kevin Fallscheer?

On September 24, students who were new to the highschool as freshman and transfer students were welcomed by the building staff of Kearsley High School, as well as the district Administration, inclusive of a full breakfast with a yogurt parfait bar, full breakfast bar (with eggs, bacon sausage, breakfast potatoes), muffins, and a full omelet station. Let’s just say that the line was out the door!

Students and staff had the opportunity to experience their very own slice of paradise with Chef Kevin.

A Bitter-Sweet Good-Bye

Kathryn Love has served the Kearsley Community School District in multiple capacities, spending the last almost decade at Dowdall as the Head Cook.

After 21 years with Kearsley Schools, Kay retired, leaving a lasting and loving impression on our team with her kind words and sweet disposition. On October 15, 2025, she left us with hugs and warm goodbyes. We wanted to salute her with small tokens of appreciation. These small items can’t replace the smile and warm persona of a Food Service Lead that exemplifies the standards of courtesy, customer service and attentiveness as we have witnessed Kay bringing her own personal sunshine to give our students a dining experience day in and day out. For this Kay, we salute you!

Thank you for your many years of service and showing so many of our team how to get it “right.”

Amazing Celebrations - Homecoming!

Homecoming was an amazing Celebration of magical sights and magical tastes, as our district chef and team put out together a hearty feast fueled by creativity and Homecoming appetites!

The football team enjoyed a dinner prepared by Chef Kevin, which filled hungry bellies and left many smiles. Then it was on to the Yellow Brick Road as Chef Kevin used his creativity to create pasta with meat sauce and “basil Oz sauce,” much to the delight of the Homecoming attendants and their families.
