WELCOME! 2025-2026 School Year

Kearsley High School Diamonds

From the Principal...

Hello Kearsley Community,

My name is Dr. Dave Ersig, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Kearsley High School. It is a privilege to join such a proud, spirited community with a strong tradition of pride and excellence.

Education has always been my passion, and I bring 30 years of experience as an educator and leader, most recently serving as Associate Principal at Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights. Throughout my career, I have been committed to creating a safe, supportive, and challenging environment where every student can thrive.

What drew me to Kearsley is the sense of family and community that is so clearly evident. My wife and I are excited to be part of this incredible district, and I look forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and community members to ensure that every student reaches their full potential.

In the coming weeks, I plan to be visible and accessible. I want to listen, learn, and build strong relationships with all of you. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself when you see me at school events or around campus.

Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. Together, we will continue to make Kearsley High School a place where students learn, grow, and develop.

Go Hornets!

Attendance Matters!

Attendance Image

Research is clear—when students attend school regularly, they succeed! At KHS, we want every Hornet to have the best chance to learn and grow.

Here’s what you need to know about our attendance policy:

  • 9 absences per semester are allowed (excused or unexcused).

  • If a student reaches 10 or 11 absences in a class, they’ll need to make up time by attending one or both of our Saturday School sessions later in the semester.

  • Exceptions: Medical issues, funerals, and court appearances do not count against these absences. Please notify the Attendance Office so we can record them properly.

Why it matters: Attendance isn’t just about grades—it’s about experiences! Students must be present to participate in extracurricular activities after school.

Dance Policy: To encourage strong attendance and good behavior, students with more than 9 absences or a Level 5 (or higher) discipline referral won’t be eligible to attend dances in the following semester.

Backpacks, Lockers & Cell Phones – What You Need to Know!

Backpacks, Lockers, & Cellphones

At Kearsley High, safety and learning come first!

Lockers: Every Hornet is assigned a locker for the year—your personal space to stay organized and prepared.

Backpacks: Backpacks are welcome on campus, but they must be stored in lockers during the school day. This keeps classrooms safe and gives everyone more room to learn!

Cell Phones: To help students stay focused and engaged, cell phones should remain in lockers during class. Don’t worry—you’ll have access during passing times and lunch to stay connected.

By following these guidelines, we’re building responsibility and creating an environment where every Hornet can thrive! Thank you for your support!

Driving to School? Here’s What You Need to Know 🚗

Hornets who plan to drive to school this year will need a parking pass. Here’s how to get yours:

  • Cost: $30

  • Pay Online at PaySchools (click here)

  • What You Need To Upload:
✅ A copy of your vehicle registration
    ✅ Proof of insurance

Important: Kearsley High School is a closed campus, which means students are not permitted to leave during the school day without permission from the Main Office. Driving is a privilege, and following these rules helps keep everyone safe.

Attendance

Did you know that missing just 10% of the school year—for any reason, including excused, unexcused absences, or suspensions—can have a serious impact on a student’s success? It can make it harder for children to:

  • Learn to read by 3rd grade

  • Stay on track in middle school

  • Graduate from high school on time

If your child needs to be absent, please call the school at (810) 591-5312 to report the absence.

To have the absence counted as medical, please provide a doctor’s note.

Great things happen when we all work together for the success of every Hornet.

Join Our Hornet Volunteer Team!

Kearsley High School truly values the time, energy, and care our parent volunteers bring to our community! Throughout the school year, there will be many opportunities to help with school-wide events, classroom activities, and extracurricular programs.

To keep our students safe, all volunteers are required to complete a “Volunteer Screening Form” for EACH event, field trip, party, or sports/activity season you plan to volunteer for.

Your involvement makes a big difference in creating the best experience for our Hornets—thank you for partnering with us!

Visit the KCS Volunteer Page to learn more and access the form. Please allow up to 4 business days for processing.
