Message from the Principal

Weston Families,

Spring is around the corner, and with it comes a season full of energy, growth, and exciting opportunities for our students. This time of year always feels special as we see just how much our students have grown academically, socially, and emotionally since the start of the school year.

One of the most exciting events of the year is our upcoming Kindergarten Round Up. We look forward to welcoming our incoming kindergarten students and we are eager to meet the Class of 2038! If you know families in our community with children who will be eligible for kindergarten, please encourage them to sign up for an appointment to register (see below).

Spring also brings unique learning experiences to our school. We are thrilled to host Science Alive and Upland Hills Farm. Both bring exciting animals to Weston for students to learn about and experience, some more exotic than others! HUGE THANK YOU to the Elementary PTO for making this a possibility!

As the weather improves, we look forward to spending more time outdoors. Spring weather can be unpredictable, so please continue sending students dressed in layers and prepared for changing conditions. Outdoor play and fresh air are important parts of a healthy school day, and we want students to be comfortable and ready to enjoy it.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we are creating a school community where every child can grow, explore, and thrive. We look forward to a fantastic spring filled with learning and celebration!

Warmly,
Mrs. Wood

Coming Soon...Weston Building Updates

We are fortunate at Weston to have seen several building improvements in recent years, including a new secure entry and office remodel (Summer 2024), brand new roof (Summer 2025), new digital sign (Summer 2025) and expanded parent loop (Summer 2024) to improve safety and traffic flow.

As part of our district’s continued commitment to improving our learning spaces, and thanks to our community’s investment in our schools, we're excited to inform you that several classroom renovations will be completed at Weston Elementary this summer.  A total of 9 classrooms will be updated and will include new flooring, cabinetry, paint, lighting and classroom furniture all with the goal of enhancing the overall learning environment for our students.

This work will all take place during the summer months so there will be no disruption to students. We look forward to welcoming Weston students back in the fall to updated classrooms that reflect the pride we have in our schools and community!

Birthday Treats

Students have three fun and meaningful options to choose from to celebrate their special day at school:

🎉 Bring in a non-food treat to share (such as stickers, pencils, etc.)
📚 Bring a book for the teacher to read to the class
🏃 Enjoy 15 minutes of extra recess with their class

In accordance with our district wellness policy, food items are no longer allowed for birthday celebrations.

Miss School, Miss Out! Why Every Day Counts 🎒

Coming to school every day helps children build the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Each school day gives students the chance to learn something new, practice important reading and math skills, and spend time with friends and teachers who support them. Even missing a few days can make it harder for students to keep up with classroom learning.

We understand that families sometimes face challenges that make regular attendance difficult. Our school is here to support you. By working together, we can help every child build strong habits and achieve their best.

3 Simple Ways to Support Good Attendance ⭐

  • Create a Daily Routine – Regular bedtimes and morning routines help children feel prepared and ready to learn.
  • Make School a Priority – Try to schedule appointments and trips outside of school hours when possible.
  • Reach Out for Help – If your family needs support with attendance, transportation, or other challenges, please contact the school. We are here to help.

Please reach out to Mrs. Jane Fonger at jfonger@kearsleyschools.org or 810-591-2342 with questions or concerns about your child’s school attendance.

News From Kindergarten

Dear Kindergarten Families,

With the 3rd Marking Period coming to a close shortly after spring break ends, we would like to update you on what students will be expected to know and do in the upcoming weeks. These skills will be some of what students will be scored on, on their 3rd Marking Period Report Card in April.

We heavily encourage families to practice these skills at home with your child. Mastering these skills will really help students build a solid foundation to becoming fluent readers and writers as they get older!

Remember: practice and repetition is key! Practicing these concepts through conversation while in the car, talking at the dinner table, playing with toys together, or reading a book at bedtime is a great way to squeeze in some extra practice, while still enjoying family time! Please reach out to your teacher if you’d like some extra ideas on how you can integrate some extra practice of these skills at home!

News From 1st Grade

Hello First grade families!

We hope that everyone has been having a great year so far. The first grade team wanted to send home some helpful tips as we head into the last stretch of the school year. These will help your student gain independence, strengthen skills learned at school, and help develop good habits. As we know they will be second graders soon!

1.) Stay Connected with School: Regularly check their backpack for notes and maintain communication with their teacher and school.

2.) Establish Routines: Use checklists or visual aids for morning and bedtime routines to foster independence.

3.) Promote Independence: Let them pick out clothes, pack their backpack, and manage their own belongings.

4.) Use Play for Learning: Play board games to teach turn-taking and dealing with disappointment. Use games to practice sight words and math facts.

5.) Read Daily: Read with your child every day, visit the library, and encourage them to read to you, siblings, or pets.

6.) Writing: Encourage writing, including lists, notes, or stories.

7.) Math: Incorporate math into daily life, such as counting objects or identifying shapes.

8.) Sight Words: Use games to help them memorize their list of sight words.

Technology-Free Family Activities for the Spring

  • Create a nature journal with drawings and observations
  • Wash bikes and go for a family ride
  • Have a picnic in the yard or at a local park
